[like most mornings, mako heads down to the cottage to pick up a few things. unlike most mornings, when she gets there, there's only half a cottage. The other half missing piecemeal, simply vanished.

so she knows, now.

she packs a bag, her clothes and her things, carefully and deliberately. the rest will disappear soon. there's no point in half a cottage, after all. once the bag is packed, she heads back to where she's been sleeping. she doesn't look back. the rush of mojikara returning to her is all she needs to know.

she doesn't stop at the door or in the main room of the cabin, just grabs jiu wu by the arm, pulling him into his room without a word and shutting the door behind her. then she pushes him down onto the bed and curls up against his side]

[ makes a startled sound but he's not fighting it, just shifting to brush a hand through Mako's hair and pulling her closer against him

not going to ask any questions just yet ]

[it's probably the most forceful she's ever been, and her arms around his ribs are possibly a little too tight to be comfortable]

[ he's a big boy, he can take it and he'll do the same in return ]

[yes good she will just lay there and shake for a minute. it's pretty obvious she's trying to control her breathing so she doesn't cry and failing hard]

[ still petting gently through her hair, shifting slightly to tuck her head against his chest ]

[yep she gonna fight it for another minute or two before informing his shirt]

He's really gone this time.

[ that's quite all right ]

He wh--Ryuunosuke? Are you sure?

[ not quite sure why he asked that because you are certainly not the type to make a fuss without being positive

so pulling her tighter against his chest ]

Mako, I'm sorry.

Half of our cottage disappeared. His mojikara is gone from here.

[which means so is he, and she just lost her home]

It's not--I thought I was prepared.

[which is what finally makes the tears come]

[ he just holds her, fingers brushing gently through her hair ]

It's not something anyone can be truly prepared for, no matter how much we tell ourselves we are. He may have left, but you are not alone.

[turns her face pretty much entirely into his chest. sorry about your shirt, bro]

I know. I just can't...Takeru and Chiaki, I just can't right now.

[ he's willing to sacrifice a shirt for big sister ]

You don't want to show your weaknesses to the people trying to stay strong themselves. And you don't want to burden them while they're still trying to heal.

[just nods, because he's got it in one]

I'm sorry.

[ shifting a little and craning his neck and pressing a small kiss to the top of her head ]

You have nothing to apologize for. It's okay to ask for help or just someone to listen for a little while.

[ advice he should probably take himself, but that's neither here nor there ]

[yep and she's not so far gone that she won't comment on that, either, because neesan gonna neesan]

Mm, I'm not the only one.

I know. And I'll try harder in the future. For now, it's you.

[ still with this petting because jie needs cuddles ]

[he's going to get held to that. just not today]

I feel silly being so upset now. He's been gone. This is just...

[ he knows and he'll cross that bridge when he gets to it ]

He's someone important to you - all of you, no matter how you shake the stick at it. Him not being around as much before doesn't give you any less reason or right to be upset about it.

[sighs, because these are the things she'd tell someone if their positions were switched]

I know. I just...I didn't want to do this. It's been me--some version or another--that's done the disappearing before.

[ he's not quite sure what to say to that, so he's just going to hold on a little tighter ]

[it's cool, she's not expecting anything, since...what is there really to say? she'll just go for hiding her face in his chest more]

[ he can do this as long as you need it, bigsis ]

[that makes her lift her head, and he gets a teary smile]

[ cracks a grin ]

[gosh it's not like she's trying to be avoidant or anything]

[ you can be whatever you want to be, he'll still cuddle you ]
