A whole lot of things, lately. How is your shoulder?

[you get to see their new cabin! it's a bit traditional, but possibly homier than expected, with things in it that are simple, but more comfortable than austere. go go mojikara.]

[sits down, trying not to fidget]

[is only putting the kettle on before she comes and sits down next to you, close enough that you almost have to lean]

Did you hear about... all the stuff with Ryuunosuke?

[nnnot snuggling just yet]

I've known about Ryuunosuke's feelings the whole time. But they weren't mine to tell Takeru.

...oh.

You're allowed to be mad at me.

I'm not--

[sighs and rubs his face helplessly]

I'm not mad at you. I'm just--it really sucks.

It does. It's unfortunate, and it's not the easiest thing. But it also doesn't change a thing about where we all are.

...yeah, I guess.

[okay now he's leaning a little]

[puts an arm around your shoulders now that you're leaning]

Only guess?

I mean--I guess Ryuunosuke isn't mad at me anymore. Or he wasn't in the first place. Stuff got kind of mixed up. I just don't want him to feel like crap either.

He wasn't in the first place.

Nobody does. But Ryuunosuke is the only one who can change that, at this point. He's slowly getting the message.

What about you? How do you feel?

Well. [his shoulder hunching a little under your arm] ...Takeru doesn't want to go back to him, either.

[he's more than a little uncomfortable with exactly how much that thought scared him when takeru told him about ryuunosuke's feelings]

[makes a rueful little sound]

Takeru scared you, didn't he?

It's dumb. [his voice a little raw] If he wanted to go back to Ryuunosuke, I wouldn't want him to stay with me. I want him to do what he wants.

[ruffles your hair, half a noogie]

Stop saying that perfectly reasonable things are dumb.

I mean it's dumb to be scared.

[but he doesn't deny it, just rubs his face a little then drops his hand]

If he did, well, I'd just be in Ryuunosuke's position, and it wouldn't be anybody's fault any more than it's anybody's fault now. [but the thought makes his stomach knot and he stares down at his shoes]

True enough. Except it's incredibly obvious that he's head over heels for you.

Besides, I'd never take him back.

[that makes him laugh a little, leaning against you slightly more, some of the tension bleeding out of his shoulders]

I guess. [but now he just looks pleased and a bit shy, his hands fidgeting in his lap]

It's really, really obvious. And I really, really wouldn't.

...are you mad at him. [looking up at you, finally]

No. Just realistic. It's pretty obvious in retrospect that his heart had wandered some time before we ended it. If we weren't suited enough that I could keep his attention, that isn't something that will change. And it's not what I want in a relationship.

[and she actually does seem zen about that]

[and that's what makes him relax completely, his face clearing a little as he leans against you]

Okay.

[you get an actual hug]

Ryuunosuke might not have his feelings sorted out all the way yet, but Takeru and I do. You don't have to worry about that.

[you get a hug back, then, his face against your shoulder]

[pets your hair]

It's only the truth.

I just--I like this a lot. With Takeru, and everything. I don't want to feel like crap because of it.

[shakes his head a little]

I don't want anybody else to feel like crap because of it either.

It's a good thing, you and Takeru.

And the reasons that Ryuunosuke feels the way he does have very little to do with you, even if he did snap at you. They really are between him and Takeru, or between Ryuunosuke and himself.

Besides, he wants you to be happy.

[nods]

Well--I want that for him, too. And you.

I know. We're all doing our best to get there, hm?

...yeah.

So don't worry too much. Which isn't to say that you and Ryuunosuke don't need to talk, but...

Well. We kinda did, a little. I think we're okay.

Ah, good. I'm glad.

...me too. [sounding relieved]
